When I was a child, I burned with righteous indignation at Adam and Eve, who had failed so miserably in paradise. Surely, if I had been standing beneath that tree, things would have turned out quite differently!
I’m not so sure about that anymore. Perhaps that is the price – and the gift – of free will. Perhaps, sooner or later, we all find ourselves beneath the tree.
